Hello! Today we will explain how to use your computer’s microphone to convert your spoken words into text without needing to manually type them. We will be using the Google Docs application within Google Drive. To use Google Docs, you need a Google account. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to create a Google account first.
Once you have your Google account, follow these steps:
- Open Google Drive and navigate to Google Docs.
- Create a new document by clicking on New in Google Drive and selecting Google Docs.
- In your new document, go to the Tools menu in the toolbar.
- Select the Voice Typing option from the dropdown.
- Click the microphone icon that appears on the left side of the text area and allow microphone permissions.
- Start speaking, and your words will automatically be converted into text.
What to Do If Voice Typing is Not Active?
You need to use Google Chrome for voice typing to work, as it’s not available in other browsers. If you don’t see the voice typing option, make sure you’re using Google Chrome.
Editing Mistakes
If there are any mistakes while voice typing, you can place the cursor on the error and simply speak to correct it. After making corrections, you can continue speaking from where you left off.
Why Don’t Punctuation Marks Work?
When using voice typing in languages like Turkish, you may notice that punctuation marks don’t work automatically. Currently, punctuation marks are only available for English. After converting your speech into text, you’ll need to manually add punctuation. We’ll notify you here if punctuation marks become available for Turkish in the future.
Voice Typing on Your Phone
On your Android phone, you can also use the Google Docs app for voice typing. Simply open a new document, activate the microphone, and convert your spoken words into text. Don’t forget to add punctuation and make the necessary adjustments afterward.
Voice Typing in Microsoft Word
At the moment, Microsoft Word does not have a built-in voice typing feature. However, Word can read your text aloud to you. To do this, open the text you want to hear, go to the Review tab in the toolbar, and select Read Aloud. This allows you to listen to the text and catch any errors or awkward sentences.
